a teaser

for those of you praying for us, i’m sure that images of the children couldn’t come soon enough. trust me, i’d love nothing more than to have pictures of these incredible children up so that you can pray with their cute little faces in mind. however, i’m also sure that many of you parents know that keeping up with 150 k-12ers is a full time job. so, i’ll do my best to keep you posted in little doses.

for now, these are my little buddies jerry, tom, and nate ( respectively ). please continue to pray for us and these unbelievable kids. you’re prayers are always appreciated.

silk + suckers

one of the key aspects of a good chinese tour are the sucker shops. they start you off on what appears to be a cultural and diverse learning experience, leaving you to the wolves at the end. it’s much like how every ride at disneyland ends in a souvenir shop. regardless, hear’s the shots.

this is us stretching a bunch of silk-cocoons out to make a conformer.

and of course… the birthday boy, bringin’ sexy back

and many more…

today is ryan’s birthday. well, it is in america at least. since you won’t be able to sing him birthday greetings over the phone, leave something annoying for him to read here!

hong kong

we’re on a stop over through hong kong. here’s a snapshot from the airport.

a little history according to michael. hong kong airport resides on a man-made island, constructed solely for the airport. i didn’t get a good shot of the airport but imagine an 80 terminal apple store with white, brushed-steel trim, and the rest of the mall inside the store.

onto shanghai!

new blog : in the works!

so, i’ve made the plunge. from this day forward our blog is powered by WordPress. i realize that for many of you that is unnessary techno-jargon but it and i apologize. just know this - today i left the requires-a-bachelors-degree-in-computer-science blog for the i-love-my-wife-and-want-you-to-hear-all-the-wonderful-things-she-would-like-to-say blog. so, stay tuned!

ps. i’ll fix the pictures soon!

transformerrrrrrrrs

if you couldn’t help but read the title of this post without hearing journey’s 3 part screaming harmonies, than this post is for you. go, see this movie! this was the best movie ticket i’ve purchased all year. i felt like i was 5 again watching my childhood hero protect me from “the evil forces of the decepticons.” in any case! whether you are a die hard transformer fan or not, everyone can enjoy this movie ( it’s just that the rest of us have the added joy of soiling our selves every time Optimus Prime speaks ).

gambling for orphans ( well, for their benefit )

growing up in a baptist church i’ve been adequately warned of the demons manufactured into every box of cards. however, on june 15th we set out to reclaim at least a couple decks.

nellie and i will be hosting a poker tournament where all proceeds go to support the 2007 Bring Me Hope summer camp for chinese orphans.

please come help us support this awesome ministry by playing a few hands of cards and inviting your friends. if you grew up like me, this might be the only good excuse you’ll ever have to do so ;)

night walk ‘07

tonight was a very special night. as part of our preparations for china we took part in the worldwide “NIGHT WALK.” each walker’s registration fee goes to support one chinese orphans camp fee. at the same time that we walk, the supported children are walking with us. it was a truly humbling experience knowing that our walking was ensuring that we will have the privilege of meeting these kids in july. we can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us.

in celebration of my mom’s 50th birthday, she asked 30 of your family and friends to take part in supporting this kids. what a generous mom she is ;) thanks so much to nellie and aunt colleen for doing all of the legwork, invitations, and birthday party-prep!

anyway, we had so many people interested in what we were doing that i only got a chance to snap off this one shot. though it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites.

SHOCKWAVE!

so, saturday nellie and i had the opportunity to do something really fun. as many of you know, she just started a new job with “ISAAC’S”:http://www.isaacscatering.com/ catering company, where she will be overseeing certain events. of course, one of the contracts that “ISAAC’S”:http://www.isaacscatering.com/ manages is the catering for “SHOCKWAVE”:http://www.sandiegoshockwave.com, san diego’s brand new arena football team.

we were working pretty hard, so there aren’t an abundance of pictures but we definitely suggest checking out a game. it was a great time.

Bread of Life

with the “weekend of service”:http://www.weekendofservice.com right around the bend, there has been a lot of buzz and interest about service projects at north coast church. we are so proud of their diligence in seeking out ways to serve people with the love and heart of Christ.

last night, nellie and i had the privilege of supplying food for the “Bread of Life Rescue Mission in oceanside”:http://www.bolrescue.com. we had such a blast shopping and making dinner.

next opportunity we get, we would love to involve you in the fun! if you have the time and desire to get involved please “drop us a line”:mailto:michaelandnellie@gmail.com. we’d love to do something great with you!

thanks melissa for coming out of your way to ensure that we get to growth group on time ;)
